JAPAN SHORT-TERM VISA
(Visas for Short-Term Stays)
The only activities permitted during a short-term stay are, sightseeing, visiting relatives, and short-term business activities.
It is important to keep in mind that working in Japan or engaging in business activities for pay or other remuneration is not permitted on a short-term visa.
Prior to entering Japan, a foreigner must apply for and obtain a short-term visa from a Japanese diplomatic mission overseas (embassy or consulate). Since, however, 63 countries have a visa exemption agreement with Japan, it is not necessary for their nationals to obtain a visa before entering Japan, provided the stay is no longer than the specified period for a short-term stay. The number of days is calculated from the day after the person arrives in Japan.
